Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge
Set during the Reconstruction era, Libertie follows the story of a free-born Black girl who struggles with difficult career expectations from her mother as well as gender stereotypes. This historical fiction story explores the meaning of true freedom for Black women and the extra obstacles these resilient women faced in order to be treated as members of society.
“Historical fiction is a favorite [genre of mine],” Zemba said. “I like to immerse myself in a different time period and imagine what life must have been like then.”
Libertie will be released on March 30.
