Named one of the most famous women in pop culture by TIME magazine, singer Sabrina Carpenter has come back from “Eyes Wide Open” with a bang with her new album, “Short n’ Sweet,” which debuted at No.1 on Billboard 200 and is at the top of multiple music charts around the world. After winning the 2024 VMAs for the song of the year, there is no doubt that Carpenter is rising as the “Sharpest Tool” in the music industry.

Most of the songs in the album explore different facets and emotions of Carpenter’s love life. From being more commonly known for her role as Maya Hart in “Girls Meets World,” she is now famous for some of the catchiest, funniest and most honest songs released this year.

“Short n’ Sweet” was definitely my go-to summer album, but I can’t deny the fact that the style and lyrics are remarkably similar to Taylor Swift’s music. Adding on, similar to Swift, Carpenter’s music is popular due to its relatability. From the beat to the lyrics, they sound almost identical, but I think “Short n’ Sweet” outshines Swift’s latest album, outranking “The Tortured Poets Department” on the Billboard ever since its release.

From telling her boyfriend not to embarrass her in public to being confused and upset about a messy relationship, many girls can relate to Carpenter’s love life. The appearance of Barry Keoghan in her recently released music video for “Please, Please, Please” has rattled the public, making them question Carpenter’s relationship with him.

At a similar time last year, Swift and Travis Kelce publicly announced their relationship, which drew a lot of public attention. Don’t the trends seem similar? Was it intentional? I don’t know, but Carpenter’s current love life looks similar to that of Swift’s last year.

Not only is the music style similar, but their concert outfits are identical. Following the release of “Short n’ Sweet,” Carpenter has been on tour and, just like The Eras Tour’s tickets, tickets for the “Short n’ Sweet” tour are extremely hard to get. Although fans enjoy singing along to hit songs, Carpenter’s concerts would never be complete without her bright, perfectly blown-out hair and diamond-studded outfits. However, didn’t Swift also captivate her audience through her vibrant outfits?

Last fall, girls waited in queues during class to buy tickets to the Eras Tour, but now, the hype about Swift has died out significantly. Even following her latest album, Swift’s music didn’t go nearly as viral on TikTok compared to Carpenter’s songs, which were on everybody’s For You page. Additionally, winning the VMAs for the best song of the year over Swift is quite a feat.

Based on the trends, Carpenter might have “overthrown” Swift as the new queen of pop. Does this mark the downfall of Taylor Swift? I firmly believe so.
