Gaylord National’s ICE
Hosted by the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, ICE is an event with attractions for people of all ages.This year’s theme is “The Dreamworks Experience”, featuring some famous Dreamworks characters including Shrek. With tickets starting at $27, people can look forward to some of the attractions including the “Tree of Light”, a 60-foot tall, stained glass tree, the various fountains of light, music shows and even dining and spa options.
ZooLights at the National Zoo
ZooLights is a free event hosted by the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. Attendees are invited to bring their friends and family to watch a display of lights. The lights illuminate in the shapes of favorite animals of the zoo including tigers and giant pandas. All profits from concessions and gift shops will be used to benefit several Zoo wildlife conservation programs and various research programs.
National Hanukkah Menorah Lighting
A national menorah is lit on White House grounds each year during the eight day celebration of Hanukkah. In addition to the lighting of the candles each night, people can enjoy musical performances and snack on hot latkes and donuts. The lighting ceremony is held in rain or shine.
Water Skiing Santa
Now in its 29th year of operation, the free admission water skiing Santa show has moved from D.C. to Old Town Alexandria. On Dec. 6, spectators can stop by the waterfront near the Alexandria City Marina to watch some of their favorite Christmas characters perform, including appearances by Santa, the Grinch and Frosty the Snowman.
Wolf Trap Holiday Sing-A-Long
The Holiday Sing-A-Long at Wolf Trap is a free event for anybody who wants to attend. This year, the sing along will be held on Dec. 6 People are allowed to bring their own chairs, food, drinks and even their own candles and jingle bells to this event. The U.S. Marine Band will play classic holiday carols, and participants are invited to sing along.
First Night Alexandria
First Night Alexandria is a fun way to spend your last hours of 2014 and first hours of 2015. Tickets are $15 if purchased before Dec.15 and $20 afterwards for the entire event, including over 100 live performances, interactive games and a midnight firework show.
