Winter sideline cheer is back this season after an almost 13 year break. They returned because there was an FCPS school that had attended the state competition for basketball, and superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid went to that game and saw the sideline cheerleaders that were from the opposing team and she decided that they should bring sideline cheer backs.
The cheer members got ready for their last basketball game of the season on Feb. 9. The 13 member cheer team performed multiple stunts and cheers and they do about five cheers per quarter.
The winter cheer team warms up before the game, going over their chants. On the days that they have games, they’ll do practices for 30 to 45 minutes. “I think our practices are a good amount of time because we don't have a competition routine to practice; we just practice our cheers and stunts,” freshman Julia Schnabel said.
