The auditorium was filled with different jazz bands that came from all over Virginia to participate in the 42nd annual Jazz Festival for prizes and scholarships. The high schools that participated in this competition were Washington, Herndon, Marshall, Osburn Park, Annandale, Sherando, McLean, Fairfax, Meridian, Freedom, Yorktown, Langley, Alexandria City, Loudoun Valley, Godwin, Westfield, Mountain View and Clover Hill. It started on Thursday at 4:35 p.m. with the Chantilly Workshop Jazz band and ended on Saturday at 8:45 p.m. with awards.
The Brady Markin Quintet set up for their exhibition group performance at 5:45 p.m. Senior drummer Jesse Chon was named Outstanding Rhythm Section member for Saturday. “My emotions for all three years I’ve done the festival has always been ecstatic and energetic,” Chon said. “However, since this year was my last time doing it, it was a bittersweet experience that I will carry with me into my future.”
