As the 2024-2025 school year starts, subschool 5 counselor Roselyn Abrigo makes her way to her office, ready to take in the change of a different environment and improve the school year.
Abrigo is the last of her family to become a Charger, alongside her children and husband. She
thinks being a Charger alongside family is enjoyable.
“I definitely wanted to come to Chantilly with the position I’m in,” Abrigo said. “Working in subschool five is definitely something I was looking forward to but it just so happens that my children go here, so it’s not that I went here because my kids go here, but the fact that I’m here now is kind of neat.”
She finds that the biggest difference between being an employee, mom and wife is understanding the environment. However, being a mom and wife ended up assisting her with connecting with coworkers.
“I definitely knew faculty members who happen to be my husband’s friends, or my children’s coaches or teachers,” Abrigo said. “Even my children’s friends’ parents so I’ve definitely been a part of the community in that way so to be on the other side of it is definitely interesting. The biggest thing is that I’m more familiar with the academic culture and the faculty dynamics.”
During the times school is out and summer is in, Abrigo enjoys traveling especially when with family. So far, she has traveled to places including Texas, Vegas, Hawaii, California and the entirety of the East Coast.
“I’ve also been on cruises in the Caribbean and also for my honeymoon we went to the Dominican Republic,” Abrigo said. “I love, love, love, love Hawaii. I would say anything tropical.”
She hopes that one day she and her family will all visit Europe together to experience its beauty and historical impact in person. Additionally, other ways Abrigo often bonds with her family is through their shared love for the San Francisco 49ers. Her entire family, including her husband’s side, are fans of the team so she believes it was easily embraced by her.
“However, I happen to love them on my own,” Abrigo said. “And then, growing up having parents who love the 49ers.”
