Traditionally prom has taken place on Saturday where students go to DC to take pictures and go out to eat, but now that’s all changed since prom will take place on a Friday.

Prom will be held on April 4 at Capital One Hall. Tickets will be $85 from March 10-21, then $100 from March 24-April 3. The last opportunity to get tickets will be at the doors on April 4 for $125. The class board decided to have it on Friday, because the price was cheaper, but it’s not convenient for many students since it’s a school day which can result in students skipping or leaving early to get ready.

In previous years, seniors were the only ones invited to the dance; however, juniors can also come this year. Prom can be a big milestone for many high schoolers and it can be a significant event before graduation, dress shopping is a big part of the experience.

Dress shopping can also be a social aspect for students. Many students plan their outfits with their friends or coordinate with their dates.

”I’m excited to go to prom,” junior and  class board member Natalie Nguyen said. “It’s my first year going. I feel it’s going to be a new experience with the new venue.”

Since 2020, prom has been more for seniors due to COVID and social distancing. Now this has changed and administration has opened up prom for juniors as well. The 2026 class board has decided that “The Great Gatsby” will be the theme.

“I like that we chose ‘The Great Gatsby,’” Nguyen said. “We haven’t done a theme like this before. I’m excited to see what people will show up in.”

The junior and senior class boards do not work together on prom. It is tradition that the junior class board plans the prom for the seniors. Duties that come with this are helping plan where the prom will be and working with the administrators to discuss the financial costs and help advertise the prom more.

Last year, the dance was held at the Sweeney Barn; this year it will be held in Capital One Hall. The  class board decided it was better since it’s less remote and there are a variety of restaurants around the hall, which provide meal options to students since prom only provides finger food and drinks.

“I’m excited that we have a new venue,” senior Isabelle Fernandez said. “It’s supposed to be a lot bigger and way more options for food.”

If students wish to bring someone from another school, they can find guest forms located in all subschools. These guest forms must be completed by an administrator at the guest’s school.

“I haven’t had a big prom like this ever since before Covid,” assistant principal Jihoon Shin said. “CHS junior class board have been working with administrators with location and which venue fits best to their criteria and budget. Class board has also been hanging up posters to advertise prom.”
