JV girls basketball brings their A-game against Westfield

Swish! The ball goes into the basket and the crowd roars. On Feb. 6, the girls JV basketball team lost to Westfield High School 40-24. CHS also played Westfield again for their last game on Feb. 14 and won 40-33.

Director of Student Services Amy Parmentier talks to senior Delaney Brooks, freshman Kailah Rose, junior Carmen Thomason, senior Emily Raimist and junior Reagan Shin. During warmup on Sep. 19, senior captain Mars Barry, senior Stephanie Nicholson, senior Amelia Maurer and junior Hee Theng Chong practice their sautés, which are leaps where the front leg is used to land and the back leg is extended. According to Drum Corps International, practicing dance makes guard members’ skill on equipment even higher because they can move their bodies in an enhanced way. “The hardest part about guard, for me, has always been the dancing,” Barry said. “It’s not really something I’m good at, but I get over it by doing it a bunch and practicing.”

Chantilly Jazz plays “City in the window.” “My favorite piece that we played was definitely ‘Just a Moment’, senior Katie Dantinne said. “It’s not our cleanest piece but it was a lot of fun to play because we do these little dances during the piece.”
Jazzing it up!
The CHS players run on the field before the game against South Lakes. Many members have set goals for this season. “This season I would like to be a solid defensive member on the team, and to win a lot more this year then last year,” senior defensive midfielder Jonathan Han said.

Saaya Patel is a freshman and in her first year of the Purple Tide.  Other than journalism, she is a dancer and a part for the Encore Theatrical Arts Project as well as a dancer for the NBA Wizards and WNBA Mystics. In addition to that Saaya also enjoys playing sports and playing with her dog.
