Lined up on the auditorium stage, Director of Student Services Amy Parmentier and the department chairs share their insight on the curriculum for rising freshmen and their parents on Jan. 7 from 6-8 p.m. 

“In addition to the department chairs sharing about the different subjects, the highlight of Curriculum Night was our student panel,” Math Department Chair Grace Park said. “They shared about life at Chantilly, how they were managing their time and about how good the community is.”

While Parmentier presented an overview of the curriculum and reminders for rising freshmen, the department chairs for core subjects like English, math, social studies, science and world languages, focused on the progression of courses students are recommended to take.

“My focus was that we have a variety of math courses that every student can take,” Park said. “I used this metaphor that we are not in a race, but we are all running together to learn. Not everyone will have the end goal of taking calculus as a senior, and depending on your career path you should be able to find courses that you can take.”

For current freshmen, sophomores and juniors, the Elective Fair during homeroom on Jan. 13 allowed them to visit core classes, electives and academy classes that they can choose for next year. With course selection coming up in the next few weeks, the Chantilly Curriculum Fair website offers additional information through videos to explore a variety of classes.
