Bustling through the halls, students rush to attend information sessions for new course offerings, including AP Business, AP Cybersecurity Fundamentals, and Artificial Intelligence 1, during the Curriculum Fair on Jan. 13.
According to FCPS, four in five high school students want more career exploration courses, specifically in business and personal finance. In response, CHS has decided to offer AP Business, a college-level course that covers entrepreneurship, marketing, finance and management through real-world applications, case studies and project-based learning.Â
Although AP Business does not meet the Economics and Personal Finance graduation requirement, business and information technology teacher Scott Loube believes that it would be a valuable course for students looking to pursue a career in business.Â
“It’s valuable because it’s the rare class where the coursework is actually training for your real life,” Loube said. “Plus, since it offers an industry-recognized credential, it gives you a massive head start on your resume before you even step foot on a college campus.”
Additionally, following the rapid growth of the technology industry, AP Cybersecurity Fundamentals and Artificial Intelligence 1 have been added to course selections. AP Cybersecurity Fundamentals focuses on how individuals and organizations protect physical spaces, networks, and data, while examining the broader impact of cybersecurity on society and government. Similarly, Artificial Intelligence 1 introduces students to core AI concepts, including generative systems and ethical considerations, while offering work-based learning opportunities with local organizations to prepare students for future academic and career paths.
If interested in any of the new courses or want to learn more, additional information is available on the CHS Academic Advising website. Â
