In the midst of the winter season, many students have by now dug out their winter clothes in their closets and found their personal style. Their own style of fashion for the cold weather has been mixed with ongoing trends.
According to Teen Vogue, fashion trends come and go, yet trying new looks can help teenagers discover their personal style. The latest trends, such as layering with a North Face puffer jacket or wearing one of the many types of Uggs which are going viral on Tiktok and other social media, could be a start.
Sophomore Mai Dang believes that she has her fashion set for the colder seasons. She starts getting ready for winter fashion around early November by choosing her go-to outfit style.
“I usually go for a sweater and a skirt, and I also layer if it’s especially cold,” Dang said. “I do it because it’s easy to customize and really warm.”
Although fashion trends usually continuously evolve, Dang developed her sense of fashion over the past two to three years. According to her, certain resources helped influence her style and color combos.
“I was online, just scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest, and I wanted to dress like the posts,” Dang said. “After checking out a few pictures, I decided to always go with white and pink.”
Senior Aiden Murphy also starts getting ready for winter in November. Murphy developed his interest in fashion for himself through conversations with peers in his sophomore year.
“I try to be my own unique person, but I also try to do what I can to look nice by styling myself with clothes that match me,” Murphy said. “Like my leather jacket was a gift from my uncle, and I match it with black, navy or any other neutral colors.”
Freshman Muselyn Hu, on the other hand, starts taking out her outfits for the winter after Dang and Murphy, with her winter fashion coming out in mid-December. Hu leans towards comfortable and familiar clothing, with a certain brand called Hollister with sweatpants and hoodies that she almost always wears. However, she doesn’t have specific color preferences.
“I don’t really go for a certain color,” Hu said. “I just look through my closet and pick certain outfits that match and go well together with layering. Usually, though, they’re on the brighter color side.”
Hu also has a puffer jacket that she would wear over a t-shirt and a light coat. Like Murphy, she claims that she hasn’t been influenced by any social media and instead found her style personally.
“My style just came from me, as well as help from my mom,” Hu said. “I think it’s good for people to be able to come up with their own style, though getting influenced by others is helpful.”
