Blooming Trends: Springing into style with the latest fashion

As the snow melts and the air gets warmer, students’ fashion changes from big coats to crop tops. Clothing choices often vary based on weather, comfort and style. The aesthetic for 2024 spring fashion is inspired by the early 2000s, low rise-jeans, crop tops and bold colored graphic tees.

“I prefer shopping for spring clothes, because they are a lot more fun to style and there’s more room for new outfits since weather isn’t a worry,” junior Moneli Namvar said. “I like to go out in a good outfit, so most times I look at fashion, but occasionally I choose comfort.”

This season contrasting colors are more popular within different styles. According to Vogue, while popular winter colors were bright red, black, spring color matches trending this year are brown and navy blue, and gray with green.

“Normally in the winter I choose my outfits in colors such as navy blue, white and any colder tones,” freshman Seline Argel said. “In the spring I like to wear more beige tones, such as pink and brown.”

In addition to color palettes, a current spring trend for girls would be off-the-shoulder. Stores such as H&M, Hollister and Pacsun are selling off-the-shoulder blouses and shirts. H&M says their tops can be paired with denim shorts or jeans to appear more put together. Cutting off the collar of t-shirts has also been going around on social media. Many teens have been doing off-the-shoulder tops at home by using scissors and cutting the neckline of shirts. Fashion content creator Maria Nicole says off-the-shoulder tops are a strong trend for 2024 spring and a modern approach towards simple tops.

“I love off-the-shoulder tops, especially in the spring,”  Argel said. “I pair them with baggy jeans, and they always elevate my outfits.”

Another notable style are cargo pants which are gaining popularity again from the 1980s era, through the Y2K style. With a benefit to comfort, cargo pants offer a new alternative to classic jeans going along with the modern fashion atmosphere. American fashion designer Christopher John Rogers has been including cargo pants in his collections, because he believes comfort and utility have been an important factor to current customers. Cargo pants can be found in versions of jeans and in many different styles and colors, making it easy to pair with oversized shirts and sweatshirts.

“I like to wear comfortable clothes rather than fashionable ones, and cargo pants are comfortable, but they also add some style to my outfits,” freshman Utsav Das said.

Y2K shirt designs from the 2000s are being revived defining t-shirt trends for 2024 spring. Compared to normal graphic tee shirts, Y2K shirts often show bright colors, metallic designs and more retro and futuristic designs. According to H&M and Urban Outfitters, graphic tees can show off people’s unique styles and can be found in many different prints making it easier to dress-down, but still making a bold statement. These T-shirts can show off floral patterns, different bands and music, and many colorful designs adding a pop of color to simple outfits.

“I pair my graphic tees with cargo pants, because it adds more style and designs to simpler outfits when I’m wearing cargo pants.” Das said.

Pop culture over time has influenced the new replacing the old when it comes to clothing choices. As seasons change new trends are always popping up letting people change their outfits. According to Vogue diaphanous white dresses, edgy black and metallic outfits have been featured on this year’s fashion show, creating new trends.

“The change in temperature and the aura of the different seasons definitely affects what outfits I choose,” Argel said. “I love choosing outfits though, and the varying temperatures give me more room to be creative and to constantly create new ones.”
